Round 8 at DNA motorcycles of the 2011 Jonway Scooter 101 Championship Series started blooming early in the afternoon on October 14, 2011, where Andrew from DNA and myself (Brannigan Achadinha) started mapping out the track for the final.

We came up with an insane split track where a cross was placed in the track to slow down the riders and test their abilities and skill of getting through 2 90º corners quicker than their opponents. Later that night we found the top riders doing this with ease!

By 6.30pm all sponsors kazibos and portable shades were placed all over the DNA parking lot making it a true race scene as Scooter101 usually does. All scooters were pitted and ready to race. The tension was building when riders briefing was called at 7pm and rules and safety was explained to riders and spectators.

The race track was opened by the mind blowing Hip Hop Crew “8.One.Oh” from Rythm in us Dance studio, and we started with qualifying rounds.

What we thought would be a pretty predictable round and championship win turned south so quickly, quicker than you can say “Shizzling Shizim’s Shizniz!”

The heat races were tighter than a hillbilly and his sister, where we had a few smooth races and some really “Elbow Knocking” “Helmet Bashing” heats that left some guys pretty bleak. We had to have a 1-on-1 dual.

The winner gets put through to semifinals. After the first heat races we saw the Championship leader finding himself in the LCQ’s and some of the slower riders in their first semifinals of 2011.

The first LCQ heat had the championship leader, Shannon Tarr leading his race till the end, and all he had to do is make it to the semifinals to win the entire championship and take it home when on the last corner the splines in his rear wheel broke and left his scooter motionless, this made him jump off the scoot to try run past the finish line, in the last few seconds, the second place rider just passed him taking the win and leaving Shannon Tarr out of the Points lead and bumped out of the top three championship points. As devastated as we were and the crowd was we had to carry on with the racing.

After the insane LCQ’s we moved onto the semifinals. Again the track for the Semis was opened by the huge dance crew of 8.One.Oh that awed the crowd and got everyone in the mood for some more racing!

Semifinals were even more intense, the finals table looked like this:

• Dean Wheeler
• Clinton Achadinha
• Cheyne Hershal
• Dylan C
• Eric Flowerda
• Brad Mann

Just before the final race began our DJ Morgan Beatbox decided the crowd needed even more hype and started beatboxing. The most amazing sounds and beats you have ever heard coming out 1 man’s mouth. He pumped up the crowd and got them all ready for the main event!

Before the race all the riders worked out exactly where they needed to place to win the championship and it was between Cheyne, Clinton and Dean. Anything could happen!

The 2 lap warm up began and the guys looked on form! As they lined up, the gate picks were chosen by points lead in the championship. Dean picked first, then Clinton, then Cheyne, then the rest followed and filtered around them.

I had a little chat with the guys and then told them it was going to be an 8 lap final. I walked to the lights and could feel the intensity in the rider’s eyes piercing through the red light waiting for it to roll through orange into green.

As that green light shone onto the goggles of the top 6 the sound of roaring scooters head towards the cross just before turn 1. Dean Wheeler came out the other end 1st then Cheyne, Clint, Dylan, Brad and Eric. They all got through the first lap smoothly and as Clinton was about to make a smooth pass on Cheyne to try for 2nd place he lost the front on the S-Bend.

Total mayhem, he was up in a sec and back on the drive to get a decent podium position from last place, he managed to pass 6th Eric into 5th and unfortunately couldn’t make another pass to get 4th pass Brad. Dean Wheeler dominated the race till the end with some pressure from Cheyne but won the Round 8 DNA race with Cheyne Hershy coming in second.

Round 8 Standings were:
1st Dean Wheeler
2nd Cheyne Hershal
3rd Dylan C
4th Brad Mann
5th Clinton Achadinha
6th Eric Flowerda

Everyone knew right there and then that because of Dean winning his points had made him WIN the overall championship of 2011. the crowd went wild and his sponsor Sava tyres smothered him in hugs and high fives! Victory lap and burnouts by the championship winner Dean Wheeler.

Prize giving was emotional and few tears were shed, but smiles all round with the following standing in the Overall 2011 JONWAY SCOOTER 101 Championship title. We gave away some amazing prizes sponsored by, Rockstar Energy, Xkulcha, Scooter 101 & DNA motorcycles but the main 101 championship prize was an amazing JONWAY scooter, pimped out by Malossi SA, Bandit Signs & Scooter 101.

The Scooter was handed over by Louw Du Toit from Vespa South Africa who represents Malossi South Africa.
