Brett Fisher wins Gold medal in the Roof of Africa

Brett Fisher

Only the toughest survive the Roof of Africa Extreme Enduro Race and this year was no different. Between November 24 and 26, 2011, the 44th annual Roof of Africa, a three day dirt-bike race was held and RSS’s Brett Fisher was there to compete.

The Roof of Africa is one of the most grueling and yet prestigious dirt-bike races in the world that takes place in the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. It is an international event known as one of the five most difficult extreme enduro races in the world.

Approximately 260 riders competed in the Bronze, Silver and Gold categories. RSS’s, Brett Fisher rode in the Gold Category and finished the race in 39th position to achieve a Gold Medal! The riders began the enduro with a 60km time trial on Thursday followed by racing sections on Friday and Saturday covering about 200km per day through the Lesotho highlands.

We asked Brett how the experience was for him this year, racing in his second ever Roof. He had this to say: “This is truly an event that every Dirt biker should take part in! The three categories namely Bronze; Silver and Gold allow a variety of different skilled riders to take part in this prestigious event and come back with a taste of victory”.

Last year when Brett first participated in the Roof he finished but didn’t get a medal. So this year he was determined to get a gold medal. He feels great to have pulled it off; he has four children, is a partner in his own business and has very little time for training.

Brett started training six months before the event; riding for five or six hours a week on Saturday mornings as well as Gyming and Cross Fit training twice a day.

He said this was honestly one of the toughest races he has ever taken part in and pushed his body and mind way past the limits, he was in the saddle for 21 hours and 27 minutes!

“The atmosphere with all the spectators encouraging the riders from the early hours of the morning to the late afternoon really made this event special and has given me memories that can never be forgotten – will I be back next year….For sure”, said Brett.
