Sandton SAPS crime briefs January 6 to 13, 2012
Warning
With the school re-opening, parents are warned to be alert while dropping off their children at schools. Numerous reports were received last year that the jamming device was used to gain access to vehicles and steal them or contents inside, while parents were dropping off their children.
Armed robbery
Wendywood: On Wednesday January 11, 2012, at approximately 8.30am, a house robbery took place in Bowling Avenue. Victim was a gardener, and when he reported at his place of work he saw a white Nissan 1400 bakkie, with plumbing equipment on the back, parked in front of the residence.
There were six unknown males by the vehicle. When the victim approached the suspects, they showed him an invoice with his employer’s details on and stated they were there to fix the plumbing. The victim then rang the intercom and the domestic worker opened the gate.
Both victims were held at gun point and tied up in a bedroom. The suspects ransacked the house, and took jewellery, TV’s, play station, computer, Ipad and a motor vehicle before fleeing.
Bryanston: On Thursday January 12, 2012, at approximately 5pm, a business robbery took place in Hobart Street. The victim was inside the shop when two unknown males entered. One suspect remained at the door; the other suspect pointed a gun at the victim and his colleagues. The suspects demanded cash. They also robbed the colleagues of their personal belongings. Suspects were seen fleeing in a red Ford Lazer.
Burglary residence
Sunninghill: On Friday January 6,2012, during the early morning hours, a residence was broken into in Naivasha Street. The victim went to sleep, with all in order. When he woke up in the morning, he found that a window had been forced open, and cash, jewellery and cell phones were stolen.
Theft out of motor vehicle
Sandown: On Thursday January 12, 2012, at approximately 6.55pm, a suspect was arrested at the Woolworths parking corner Helen and Grayston Drive. Suspect utitilised a jamming device, and stole a laptop out of a vehicle.
Smash and grab
Smash and grab incidence was reported this week, at the following intersection:
